Embark on a multiday winter journey through Newfoundland’s pristine backcountry, where adventure and fresh tracks await. This snowmobile-assisted ski touring expedition takes you deep into the north arm hills regiond of newfoundland, This secluded hilll range offers endless opportunities for exploration. Ski untouched powder or snowshoe along serene moose trails in a world that time forgot. Evenings are spent in cozy prospector style canvas tents, each one complete with wood stove. Warm yourself by the fire while dinning on a hearty moose* stew while swapping stories of the days expedition. Immerse yourself in the rugged beauty of Gros Morne's wild landscapes on this unforgettable winter escape.

Sample Itinerary


6pm Evening before the trip

Meet your Expedition leader at the Out East Adventure Centre and go through our safety orientation; this includes weather conditions, avalanche briefing, in depth gear check, waiver signing and a general overview of what to expect.

A light welcome dinner and accommodation at the Out East Hostel is included for this night.

 

Day 1 

Morning 

After a restful night at the hostel we prepare to get underway. The snowmobiles and gear are loaded aboard our trailer. We then travel 30 minutes along the highway to the trailhead, we start our expedition.


Afternoon

We travel 40km on snowmobile through rugged backcountry to our camp. This picturesque journey crosses ponds in between winding through forests and over hills. We stop for a few short breaks, as well as a good lunch on the way. We arrive at our camp late in the afternoon, where an optional sunset snowshoe walk to a nearby vista is available.


Evening

On returning to camp our tents will be nice and toasty with wood stoves lit and smells of supper in the air. We have a chance to dry clothes or gloves before we enjoy a delicious meal. We retire early to get ready for an epic day in the morning. 



Day 2

Morning

Here is where the touring adventure really begin!. After a hearty breakfast we depart camp and begin searching out fresh tracks in the hills surrounding us. Our snowmobile acts as a shuttle, ferrying skiers to the top of the hills, where they can choose their slope of choice.


Afternoon

We continue to ride the slopes, taking breaks back at camp when needed. 


Evening

We return to camp before dark, where our tents are already warmed up and waiting for us. We enjoy a hearty moose stew for dinner before tucking in for the night


Day3

Morning/Afternoon

We begin to pack up and ride back to civilization. We stop at the famous sinkhole on the way back, before returning to the trailhead by later afternoon, and returning to Rocky Harbour by early evening.
